What's your take on leaving when there are leechers around?
I spent a lot of time in Fort Aspenwood this weekend thanks to the Double Faction Event. The event was fun and useful but it seemed to attract more leechers which in turn made more people leave. This made me wonder, what do people think about this? Do you consider it a valid reason to quit when there are a lot of leechers around?
I have to admit that if there are more than 2 leechers on the Kurzick side, I tend to quit a while after the timer has reached zero (making sure they weren't just AFK waiting for the match to begin). It's very frustrating to be in a team of 5 that is busting its balls to keep the fort, lose the game at 80% and then get 160ish faction for it, and the chances of victory were very slim to begin with (unless the Luxons got shafted too and had lots of leeches as well).
Then again, I don't condone leaving mid-match just because "Things started to look bad y'know". If there are no leechers I think everybody should stay until the end no matter what. Providing the leechers free faction while they are ruining the game for others irritates me way more than the current crappy reward for losing. In my opinion the ideal situation would be that if there are many leechers, all others on the same side would quit. Actually I saw this a few times during the past weekend on both sides, I'm sure the leechers were happy about the 10-20 faction or whatever peanuts they got in the end.
OK, that was based on FA. I've been lucky with AB and never been in a team of 12 with many leechers (probably thanks to usually forming a team of 4 with alliance members). Also AB has so long waiting times that things have to be pretty damn grim to make quitting and waiting another 5 minutes an appealing alternative. You can usually get into FA within a minute.
Anyway, that's just my opinion, what do you all think? If ANet is considering actions against leechers maybe they'll find some of our views helpful.
ill leave if there are about 3+ of em and i will even give them the benefiet of the doubt...maybe an emergency or lag issue or what have you so ill stay for a couple minutes....if theyre still just standing around same place they were to begin with then i usually will just quit and go find another group. if theres only a couple i pretty much just deal with it and try to do the best than can be done. cause you also hafta remember the other side may have leechers as well...its just a matter of who has the least amount
i've never left. i give credit to the luxon guy who was 1 of 2 remaining luxons who at least made an effort while all 8 of the kurzick team were shuttling refined amber.
3 cheers for people who bring some sense of responsibility to gaming. that dude stuck it out even with a couple lamo kurzicks crap-talking him.
I think leaving is just as bad as leeching. I get sick of people leaving half way through an AB or FA just because they aren't going to win or because there are already leechers. It's just another excuse for you to leave. And have you ever actually tried talking to the leechers? If I see that my team has a leecher I stay by the rez shrine and say [leecher's name] is leeching and they usually start moving again, it's funny. How about you actually try talking before you just ragequit a match because you think the leechers are causing you to lose.

I always play until the bitter end. I've been the last member of my team actually playing a few times, and a lot of times it's me and 1-2 other guys. A few of the rest are leeching and the others have left because of the leechers.
But I just can't bring myself to quit and start a new match, because what's the guarantee that the same thing won't happen again? And I don't want to be like the people I so dislike, so I just play, no matter what the circumstances. After all, that's what I'm there, to play the game.
If there are 2 or more leechers on my team, I leave. There may be a few close games with leechers on your team, perhaps a win every so often, but the odds are that you will lose. I'm not going to waste my time for a hopeless cause. Sometimes I'm almost tempted if there is 1 leecher because I can't stand helping someone out who isn't doing anything.
I wish Anet would just crack down on the leechers. It's one thing when people are using bots in pve that don't really affect me directly, but when others are forced to deal with them, it becomes an issue.

In AB's, leechers aren't that much of a problem, as you can win with a team of 4 anyway (just cap real fast, and don't be dumb). Most of the time there's only 2-3 leechers max, so you won't have JUST a team of 4 anyway. I don't play Fort Asspenwood, because it's dumb, so leechers aren't an issue. But my opinion is that if there are too many leechers to either win, or have fun playing (constantly getting killed = no fun), then just leave. It's better to hurt a few peoples feelings but get a better team the next time, than have to suffer through the whole match.
I ussually play a couple minutes and comeback to see the leechers.Because sometimes other side have leechers as well. I onyl quit if there are half of the team not into play and the other side is dominating from the beginning.

Quote for truth.
In Fort Aspenwood, nobody cares if you are doing the more "honorable" thing by sticking it out. The other team is laughing at you. You are getting frustrated. It's just a more complex RA.
leechers AND leavers ftl. i've won in AB 4 vs 11, and once 5 vs 12, with an all guild team, and a smart extra. i've won in RA many times with only two good players... and while 3v4 not being as hard, a lot of the time, its while facing monks. if you leave, you quit, and if you quit, you're a loser, and if you're a loser, dont bother playing the next round, because while you let your last team down, they get the shaft the next time they play, with the last group of leechers, and you get a whole new team for being a punk. play the game and do your best, especially if someone else, or a few others want to try and duke it out.. dont screw over one or two others because you dont want to even try.
The only reason I can see someone urging someone else to "keep trying even when you are down" is if that person is a leecher trying to get more faction out of someone else's effort. :]
if you're the only one not leeching, leave, if you know you have real team mates, dont be a dingleberry and leave, especially if they are about to rely on you, and trust that you'll be a real team member too. thats basically the unwritten rule of gaming as far as leechers go. if you can't have fun trying your best with others that are trying their best, then you probably suck at teamwork, and dont need to play anyhow.
I've never left a match. Never will (unless RL stuff crops up). I don't know how many matches my team's been down 400 - 350 (or so) and people started leaving because they were losing. It's pathetic, because there have been many times my team's been down like that and came back and won the battle.

Good job adding to the frustration of honest players who are selfless enough to stick it out.
Erm, it's FA, on a weekend, what are the chances of getting "Good players". I normally leave if the team has about 3 or more leeches, and I need to assess my team 1st to see if they have any hope of doing any good.

If it's unwritten, I don't need to follow, anyone smart knows that. I used to be like that "Never leave" kind of idea, but I learnt some people just arn't worth the effort I put in, as for "comebacks", they rarely happen, and when they do, there fun, and worth staying for.
People in the game see leaving so black and white, and never seem to accept there are good reasons for leaving. I leave FA/AB/Anything whenever:
-I'm at a major disadvantage from leechers/afk.
-I'm not having fun (GW is game, if your not having fun, something must be wrong)
A bit of an egocentric point-of-view. That is pretty much why leavers leave: because they deem it best for themselves. That attitude is fine for hero-henching your own instance in PvE somewhere, but not so much when on a team with other real people.
Then again, this is the internetz. Anonymity and all that. So whatever, keep being a jerk.
